Body Mapping Telling Our Stories Through Art
An art-based expression where women share life’s challenges and personal expressions of hope and courage while living with HIV/AIDS
Body Mapping is an arts-based experience providing women an opportunity to communicate. Through art women share where they come from (acknowledging the significance of the past), physical and emotional experiences of illness and loss, the meaning behind their support systems, discussions of life’s challenges and personal expressions of hope and courage while living with HIV/AIDS and navigating HAART (Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy).
Each image reflects a four-hour intensive facilitated workshop. Each beautiful Body Map was created on life-sized paper measuring 6 x 4 ft.
The following are photos of the Body Maps created by participants along with their words describing their process – an installation at Vancouver Women’s Health Collective.
Battered Women’s Support Services responded to over 10,000 crisis calls from women and girls to get help and end violence in 2012. We could not provide this essential support without your contribution.
Beautifully powerful and poignant.
